Provenance
Where it comes from.
'Style' comes from Latin stilus, the pointed instrument for writing, which in English shifted from the tool to the writing, then to a manner of writing, and at last to any distinctive way of presenting oneself in dress, art, or conduct.
'Authority' comes from Latin auctoritas, from auctor, 'author, originator,' literally 'one who causes to grow,' from augere, 'to increase.' The two share the world of authorship: one began as the writer's stylus, the other as the writer's standing. Put together, they promise not just taste but the credibility to set it.
