Provenance
Where it comes from.
'Architect' reached English in the 1560s from Greek arkhitekton, 'master builder,' joining arkhi-, 'chief,' with tekton, 'builder, carpenter.' Within a couple of decades it also meant anyone who plans or contrives, a designer of things beyond buildings.
'Box' is far older in English, from Old English box via Latin buxis and Greek pyxis, a container named for the boxwood it was first made from. A word for a small, well-made wooden case sits comfortably beside the master builder, turning a profession into something you can hold.
